Chinese Drywall Risks - Made in China

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions to ask yourself to determine if you need us to come out and inspect...

1. Was your home built between 2003 - 2007?
2. Does your home have any unusual odors?
3. Are your stovetop, oven element, air conditioning coils or mirrors turning black?
4. Is your silver jewelry or flatware tarnishing?
5. Are you or any member of your family experiencing symptoms of severe allergies, nose bleeds or upper respiratory problems since moving into the home?
  1. I am buying a home, what should I do?

If you are purchasing a home built during the time periods outlined in this web site, the last thing you need to worry about is Chinese drywall and the damage it could cause to your home and potentially your health.

Check the seller's disclosure thoroughly and ask them questions relating to the possible presence of the product.

If they did not have an inspection prior to listing, it is advisable for your peace of mind that you hire a qualified inspector to conduct a Chinese drywall inspection.

Knowing exactly what you may be getting into is critical to your decision of purchase. Don't wait, inspect and detect early!

  2. I am selling a home, what should I do?

Find the Chinese drywall first! Do NOT let your potential buyer walk away from a contract because of the fear of the presence of this material.

Hire a qualified inspection company PRIOR to listing your home to inspect the property and provide a thorough report on the findings.

Use this report as a marketing tool to help reassure potential buyers that you have taken the extra step to protect them by ensuring your home is clear of the product.

Sign the seller's disclosure with confidence and sell your home with ease.

  3. How do I schedule an inspection?

You can call Ameripro at (800) 991-0142 to schedule your Chinese drywall or other inspection. Our friendly service reps will schedule a day and time convenient for you to have one of our trained inspectors assess your property.

  4. How long does the inspection take?

Depending upon the size and complexity of your home, the inspection time may vary from 1.5-3 hours. If additional testing is required, please allow for more time.

We encourage you to be present during the inspection, however, if you cannot arrange your schedule to be there, we do carry lockbox keys and can complete the inspection any time.

  5. Will you guarantee that I do not have Chinese drywall?

Remember, this product may have been used only in small areas, in one room OR throughout the entire house. The only way to practically remove the entire liability of the concern is to analyze EVERY WALL. A guarantee like this is therefore very expensive and not offered by any inspection company. The demand would require so much testing that it would render the cost of the inspection impractical - full removal of the interior drywall in your home would often be more cost-effective in this instance!

Our method of visual assessment will determine whether you have conditions associated with a Chinese drywall product or will confirm the presence of the product or both, depending on the inspector's findings and the home at the time of the inspection. Our report will also outline the location of our findings.

If invasive testing is requested, we can determine the manufacturer of the drywall which will be used as part of the assessment and recorded on the report with the inspector's findings. If invasive testing is conducted and a Chinese manufacturer name brand is noted, then your home will be moved to a high risk home and additional materials testing will be needed, regardless of whether or not corrosive conditions have been noted during the inspection.
